Magnetic properties and microstructure of Nd-Fe-B/Ta thin film
H. Takeshita
Nd2Fe14B-based thin films are candidate materials for recording media,
micro-magnetic, micro-mechanical system (MEMS) etc. In order to improve
the performance of Nd2Fe14B-based thin films, some technicalproblemes
need to be overcome. The one of problem is that the magnets need to be
highly anisotropic in order that the increased remanence exhibits in the
easy direction of magnetization. This means the Nd2Fe14B must be aligned
with the c-axis pointing in a particular direction. We have made
an epitaxial Nd2Fe14B thin films on SiO2 substrate with Ta buffer layer.
In this presentation, I would like to discuss the microstructure and
magnetic properties of Nd-Fe-B/Ta thin films.
Study on MTJ with AlOx barrier layer
R. Shan
Due to the contribution of coherent tunneling mechanism, spin polarization
of CFAS electrode can not be obtained accurately in MTJ structure with MgO
barrier. To resolve this problem, AlOx is suggested instead of MgO as an
insulator layer. In this work, the performance of MTJ with AlOx barrier had
been investigated under conditions of different buffer layer, pressure ratio
of Ar/O2, oxidization time and so on.
Optimization of FePt based ultrathin films for Perpendicular recording. Are we on right track and/or direction?
A. Perumal
This aim of the presentation is to update the recent progress of our work on
the fabrication of granular type FePt:C on thermally oxidized Si substrate
with MgO underlayer for perpendicular recording media applications. Besides,
I would briefly summarize the recent discussion from review
articles/books/workshops on the approach of the granular type media for
recording media with areal-density of Terabits/in2, along with the work on
FePt system from MMC since 1999. The immediate/distant future plan of the
work would be discussed at the end of the presentation.
