Two of the Group Leaders of the Magnetic Materials Unit is affiliated with
the Doctoral Program in Materials Science and Engineering in the Graduate School of Pure and Applied Sciences at the University of Tsukuba. Thus, students can pursue M.S. and Ph.D. degrees by conducting research
collaborating with the staff members in the center. Students can enroll
to the Materials Science and Engineering course for a master of engineering
degree (typically for two years) or the Doctoral Program in Materials Science
Engineering for a Ph.D. in Engineering. Japanese language skill is not
required. The education and research in the center are all conducted in
English so that students from all over the world are able to study here
without experiencing any handicaps compared to the Japanese students.
Group feature
The research activities in the magnetic materials unit can be featured with basic studies on magnetic and spintronics materials, their applications to data storage and spintronics devices, and their structure-property relationships. The research area is not limited in magnetic materials but wide range of metallic and oxide materials with nanostructures are covered by the nanostrucure analysis group. Their nanostructures are characterized by the complementary use of TEM and atom probe techniques, and the structural features are correlated with the properties of materials. By participating in seminars and group meetings, students can learn about wide range of materials with a key emphasis on understanding microstructure and property relationships.
