Application procedure for admission to the 3-year second term doctoral
program at the University of Tsukuba:
Special selection for international students to be enrolled in the Graduate
School of Pure and Applied Sciences, School Year 2010 [Special selection
of the international graduate students to be dispatched will be conducted
on the basis of the gImplementation Method for Chinese Government Graduate
Student Overseas Study Programh (CGGSOS Program) established by the Government
of China]
1. Qualifications
This program is designed for graduate students holding a masterfs degree
or expecting to hold the same by July 2010. As mentioned earlier, their
selection will be conducted on the basis of the CGGSOS Program established
by the Government of China. Note to the applicants: (1)Even if chosen for
this special selection, you will not be admitted unless you go through
the CGGSOS Program (the Chinese government only dispatches doctoral research
fellows who have masterfs degrees). (2)Successful applicants will be admitted
to the program on August 1, 2010 (the second term). (3)There will be no
test fee, admission fee, or tuition fee for this special selection.
2. Doctoral Programs for which the students will be selected
A few applicants will be selected for each doctoral program of the Graduate
School of Pure and Applied Sciences. Please be sure to verify the research
areas of your interest, available on the website of the Graduate School,
and contact the appropriate Program Directors (list given below):

3. Application forms and other documents
(1)Application form Fill out the required items on a form designated by
University of Tsukuba. Be sure to include 2 your email address.
(2)CV for international applicants Fill out the required items on a form
designated by University of Tsukuba..
(3)Academic transcripts You must submit a transcript certifying that your academic results meet the requirements of the Doctoral Program of the Graduate School at the University of Tsukuba (normally from the graduate school from where you obtained your masterfs degree).
(4)Examination admission card/photo card Fill out the required items on
a form designated by University of Tsukuba. You must attach your photograph
(4cm x 3cm), taken in the last three months; an upper-body shot without
any headwear is considered suitable.
(5)Proof of degree (or expected degree) Submit a proof of your degree (or
expected degree) in English or Japanese. For those with a masterfs degree
from a Japanese university, a masterfs program diploma is acceptable. Those
of you who do not hold a masterfs degree yet, ensure that you have proof
of you degree by July 2010.
(6)Letter of recommendation by a professor from your university or the
university from where you graduated (in any format) Submit the reference
letter in English or Japanese.
(7)Abstract of research results (in any format) Submit an abstract of your
research results in English or Japanese on A4 x 2 pages.
(8)Research plan document Submit a document describing your research plan in English or Japanese. It should be presented on A4 x 2 pages and expressively described; also include the topic of your research study and the name of your university (or the one from where you graduated), your name, the program that you wish to be enrolled in, the research area of interest, research issue, research method, expected goal, and conclusion.
4. Application procedures for admission
(1)An applicant should prepare the required documents for application and post them to the following address before the application deadline: Graduate Academic Affairs, Support Room for the Graduate School of Pure and Applied Sciences, University of Tsukuba, Tenodai 1-1-1, Tsukuba, Ibaraki, 305-8571
(2)Deadline: Your application should have been received by Thursday, October
15, 2009.
(3)Once your application has been received, you will be notified of the
details including the location of the examination by email.
5. Selection method Candidates for admission shall be comprehensively determined
on the basis of the submitted documents and examination results. 3
6. Entrance examination and schedule
(1)Time and date: 13:00 on Monday, November 16, 2009
(2)Examination type and allocated points: Oral test (200 points)
(3)Content of Oral Examination: An approximately 15-minute presentation of your previous research studies in English or Japanese, reason for application, and research plan after admission, followed by another 15-minute question and answer session.
(4)The entrance examination may be cancelled due to various situations
including measures for pandemic flu. Please check updated information at
our website.
7. Entrance examination location Room 301, Distance Education College Building, East China Normal University, No.3663, North ZhongShan Road, Shanghai 200062, P.R.China You will receive further information by email once your application has been accepted.
8. Announcement of successful applicants On Tuesday, December 15, 2009,
a letter of acceptance (including the handling of tuition and other exemptions),
together with information on the studentfs instructor will be sent to each
successful applicant.
9. Admission procedure
Specially selected students must post a certificate (original copy) issued
by the China Scholarship Council (CSC) to the following address:

You shall be notified by the admission procedure guide, at a later date,
of the time and date of admission, location, and the documents to be submitted.
The certificate (original copy) issued by the CSC will be returned to you
after verification.
