In Japan, only approximately 1/3 of the primary energy input is used, while the remaining 2/3 is exhausted as waste heat. Efficient use of thermal energy is a key technology to solve the escalating energy problems, while thermal management materials and thermoelectric materials are fundamentals of this technology. Materials with high thermal conductivity play important roles of heat dissipation in LED, power devices and so on, to increase the energy efficiency and life span of these devices. Thermal insulation materials are required in order to enhance the thermal efficiency of, for example internal combustion engines by decreasing the heat loss. Furthermore, electricity generation from waste heat and renewable heat energy such as solar heat will make significant contributes to energy saving. In this group, by integrating experiment, theory, computation and data science methods, we aim to explore and develop new high performance thermal management materials and thermoelectric materials composed of ubiquitous elements. The following research subjects are included:
High thermal conductive material
・Thermal insulation thin film
・Thermoelectric material composed of ubiquitous elements
