Fabrication of Submicrometer-sized Sm2Fe17N3 Particles

概要

Rare-earth element containing particles with high magnetocrystalline anisotropy have drawn great attention because of the potential application in high energy-product permanent magnets. Sm2Fe17N3 is high-performance magnetic material with high anisotropy field (Hk = 146 kOe), saturation magnetization (Ms = 1220 emu/cm3), and Curie temperature (Tc = 750 K) and has been expected to be an alternative of Nd-Fe-B sintered magnets. To fabricate high energy-product permanent magnets, the powdery particles with the size down to the single-domain size is required. In this study, we report the fabrication of the Sm2Fe17N3 particles in submicrometer size by introducing nitrogen atoms into the interstitial sites of the Sm2Fe17 alloy made by a reduction-diffusion of the chemically-syntesized Fe3O4-SmOx core-shell nanoparticles.
